Who Can't Afford Downtime

The Rhino Instant Set Concrete Repair Mortar gives contractors and engineers a structural, fast-setting solution that reaches working strength in 1 hour.

01
Structural Strength in 1 Hour
Initial set in just 15 minutes, full structural strength in 1 hour. Ideal for high-traffic areas, critical repairs, and projects where downtime costs money.
02
Versatile ½" to 6" Application
Trowelable from ½ inch to 6 inches in a single application; vertical, overhead, and horizontal. One product handles shallow surface repairs and deep structural fills alike.
03
Excellent Freeze/Thaw & Salt Resistance
Air-entrained formula with outstanding freeze/thaw and salt resistance. Built to perform in harsh climates, wet environments, and exterior applications that take a beating year-round.
04
Polymer-Modified for Superior Bond
Polymer-modified formulation delivers increased adhesion and flexural strength, bonding firmly to existing concrete without the delamination risk of standard repair mortars.
05
Non-Metallic · No Chlorides · Low Shrink
Non-metallic and chloride-free formula eliminates rust staining and corrosion risk. Excellent low-shrink properties prevent cracking after application.

Rhino Instant Set Mortar vs. Other Rapid-Set Repair Mortars

Most rapid-set repair mortars set quickly — that's the baseline, not the advantage. Here's where the Rhino Instant Set Concrete Repair Mortar pulls ahead of comparable instant-set products on thickness, versatility, and durability.

Specification
RHINO Instant Set Mortar
Other Rapid-Set Mortars
Initial Set Time
~15 minutes
Comparable — typically 10–30 minutes
Single-Application Thickness
½" to 6" in one lift
Often capped lower (e.g. 4") or require multiple lifts
Application Orientation
Vertical, overhead & horizontal
Many are orientation-specific (separate H vs. V/O products)
Lift Requirements
Full depth in one pass
Deep repairs often need scored, multi-lift buildup
Freeze/Thaw & Salt Resistance
Excellent — air-entrained
Generally good — varies by formula
Chlorides
No added chlorides
Most quality rapid-sets also chloride-free
Shrinkage
Low-shrink formula
Low — most rapid-sets manage shrinkage well
Bond Strength
Polymer-modified — superior adhesion
Often polymer-modified — comparable
Sculptability
Sculptable / shapeable while working
Varies — many flow or screed only
Certifications
ASTM C928 & C387
Many meet ASTM C928; C387 less common
Use Cases
Repair & new construction
Often positioned for repair/patching only

The Rhino Instant Set Concrete Repair Mortar is designed for fast field application. Mix only what you can use in 15 minutes — structural strength follows in 1 hour.

01

Prepare the Surface

All surfaces must be structurally sound and clean. Remove all dust, acid, waxes, sealers, old adhesive residue, curing compounds, oil, paint, or any other foreign materials that could inhibit bond.

02

Condition Materials

Condition all materials to 65°F–75°F (18°C–24°C) for 24 hours prior to installation. Temperature affects set time — work within the recommended range for predictable results.

03

Remove Rust

Any rust on exposed reinforcing rods must be removed by mechanical methods — wire brushing, sandblasting, or scraping — before mortar application to prevent future corrosion and bond failure.

04

Dampen the Area

Prior to placement, dampen the repair area with clean water to a saturated-surface-dry (SSD) condition. Do not leave standing water — the surface should be damp but not wet.

05

Mix the Mortar

Add water and mix using a ½" heavy-duty drill at 300 RPM or less with a paddle mixer, or a mortar mixer. Avoid high-speed mechanical mixing — it can entrap air. Allow at least 1 cu. ft. (28 L) mixer capacity per 50 lb bag.

06

Apply Immediately

Mix only the amount that can be applied within 15 minutes. Organize mixing and application as close to the work area as possible to maximize working time with this accelerated-setting material.

07

Trowel to Finish

Apply from ½ inch to 6 inches in thickness — vertical, overhead, or horizontal. Trowel to the desired profile and finish. The material is sculptable and holds its shape without slumping.

08

Allow to Cure

Initial set occurs in 15 minutes. Structural strength is reached in 1 hour. The repair is durable, low-shrink, and ready for traffic and loading once full strength is achieved.
