Sunnybrook Hospital
CFRP Retrofitting
Structural areas at Sunnybrook Hospital were reinforced with carbon fiber laminate, enhancing strength, durability, and long-term performance while meeting engineering requirements.
View PDFThe Problem
A contractor was hired to complete a critical rehabilitation project on the ground floor of Sunnybrook Hospital. Structural drawings provided by an engineering firm identified multiple areas that required reinforcement to meet safety and performance standards.
The project demanded a solution that could strengthen existing concrete while maintaining durability, efficiency, and minimal disruption within an active hospital environment where precision and cleanliness were essential.
⚠ Structural deficiencies required a precise, durable reinforcement solution that met engineering standards and could be installed efficiently in a sensitive environment.
The Solution
The contractor selected Rhino Carbon Fiber CFRP Laminate 1.21 bonded with epoxy to reinforce the identified areas. The concrete surface was carefully prepared by grinding to create the proper texture and thoroughly cleaning to ensure strong adhesion.
Laminate strips were cut to size, cleaned, and coated with epoxy before being applied to the surface using rollers to achieve full contact and a uniform bond. The system was installed across multiple locations, resulting in improved strength, durability, and long term structural performance while meeting all engineering requirements.
