Stadium Support
Column Repair
Deteriorated stadium support columns were repaired and strengthened with carbon fiber wrapping, providing an efficient, durable solution despite access and scheduling challenges.
View PDFThe Problem
LAN Concrete Technology was awarded a contract to repair and reinforce cracking concrete supports for the bleachers at Alumni Stadium. The project required addressing deterioration in 58 support columns, many of which had significant cracking and structural weakening.
The job was further complicated by limited site access and a tight construction schedule, making traditional repair methods difficult to execute efficiently.
⚠ Deteriorated support columns combined with access limitations required a fast, effective, and minimally disruptive repair solution.
The Solution
LAN Concrete Technology selected Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer CFRP for its strength and ease of installation. The supports were excavated one foot below grade to allow full access, then wrapped with 560 GSM, 12 inch wide bidirectional Rhino Carbon Fiber CFRP using an epoxy adhesive.
After installation, a UV resistant coating was applied for protection and appearance. This method restored the structural integrity of the supports while overcoming access challenges and meeting the project timeline.
