Shoprite Facility Concrete
Beam Strengthening
Fire-damaged concrete beams at a shopping facility were successfully reinforced with multi-layer carbon fiber, restoring structural performance with minimal deflection while meeting tight project timelines.
View PDFThe Problem
PND Contracting in Mauritius Island was hired to strengthen concrete beams at the Shoprite facility in Trianon Shopping Park after the building was damaged by a catastrophic fire. The fire compromised both primary and secondary beams supporting the roof, raising serious concerns about structural performance.
The project also faced tight timelines and logistical challenges, requiring a solution that could be implemented quickly and effectively.
⚠ Fire damaged structural beams required rapid strengthening to restore load capacity and ensure safe operation.
The Solution
Following a structural design, the beams were reinforced using 400 and 560 GSM Rhino Carbon Fiber CFRP applied with epoxy, with multiple layers installed as required. Despite logistical challenges, materials were delivered on time, allowing the project to proceed quickly.
Load testing after installation showed significantly reduced deflection, confirming the effectiveness of the repair and restoring the building’s structural performance.
